Read the result correctly
Three facts matter more than one DPI label.
Pixel width and height are the source of available detail. Changing a resolution tag does not add pixels, sharpen edges, or improve an image.
JPEG JFIF, JPEG Exif, PNG pHYs, PNG Exif, and supported WebP Exif can describe resolution. When sources disagree, the result is Conflict, not a hidden winner.
Effective DPI is calculated from pixels and the requested physical size: pixel width ÷ print width in inches, and the same for height.
How to use the checker

Frequently asked questions
What does an image DPI checker measure?
It reports an image's pixel dimensions and readable resolution metadata, then helps estimate effective DPI for the print size you enter. It does not judge image quality from a metadata label alone.
What does Not specified mean?
Not specified means the file has no usable resolution metadata. The checker does not substitute a default 72 or 96 DPI value.
Why can resolution metadata show a conflict?
A file can contain more than one resolution source, such as JPEG JFIF and Exif or PNG pHYs and Exif. If those sources disagree, the checker reports the conflict instead of silently choosing one.
Does 300 DPI mean that an image is Print Ready?
No. 300 DPI is a target metadata value, not a Print Ready verdict. Usable detail still depends on the image's pixel dimensions and the physical print size.
Are my images uploaded?
No. The checker reads and processes supported files locally in your browser. It does not need an image upload to report the result.
