Removes EXIF camera details, GPS, serial numbers, author data, comments and thumbnails. Keeps orientation, DPI and color profiles.

Choose individual fields

Turn off Remove private metadata to retain unselected fields. Individual selection supports PNG text fields and common EXIF device, author and software fields; other private fields use the group option.

Source records may contain generator prompts. Removing them discards provenance information and does not guarantee that watermarks or other AI signals disappear.

Your current file and report remain local; results expire after 24 hours. Clear local files to delete them sooner.

Clean a copy, then inspect it

  1. Inspect the original and select the categories you want to remove, such as GPS, serial numbers or personal comments.
  2. Review the preservation choices for orientation, colour profiles, DPI and Content Credentials. If a change would invalidate a credential, resolve the warning before continuing.
  3. Create the cleaned copy, compare removed and retained fields, download it and reopen that exact file in Metadata Viewer.

Privacy and appearance need different decisions

Removing an orientation tag can make some files display sideways. Removing a colour profile can change appearance in colour-managed software. Removing DPI metadata changes the information available to printing applications even when the pixels stay the same.

A signed Content Credential can be affected by a metadata edit. Do not call a retained signature valid without checking its binding after the change. Keep the original privately when you need to preserve provenance, and label any derivative honestly.

Metadata is only one privacy surface

A cleaned file can still reveal information in the picture itself, its filename, the surrounding message or a sharing service’s records. Cropping, blurring or redacting visible information is a different task. Removing metadata does not guarantee that AI-generated content can no longer be detected.

Frequently asked questions

Will the original be overwritten?

The tool produces a separate output. Keep your original until you have verified the downloaded copy.

Should I remove ICC and orientation?

Keep them unless you understand the effect and have verified the result. They can affect colour and how the image is displayed.

Can I remove Content Credentials?

Only as an explicit choice. Removing or changing provenance information does not make the picture authentic or prevent other forms of detection.

How do I verify the clean-up?

Reopen the downloaded copy, inspect the selected fields and compare its displayed orientation, colour and dimensions.
