Choose the intended size
- Choose your original and inspect its displayed dimensions and orientation.
- Enter pixels, a percentage, or physical dimensions with a PPI. Keep the aspect ratio unless you intentionally want a different shape.
- Choose crop, pad or stretch when the target ratio differs. Review output format and quality, run the operation and inspect the result.
What each fit mode does
A proportional resize preserves the shape. Crop fills a target rectangle by removing part of the picture. Padding keeps the full composition inside additional space. Stretch forces the content into a different shape and can distort faces, circles and text.
Increasing pixel dimensions estimates additional pixels; it does not recover the camera detail that was never captured. Downsampling also changes pixels, although it can make an image more suitable for a smaller display or print. Work from the largest useful original and avoid repeatedly saving lossy intermediates.
Check edges, colour and file requirements
Inspect fine detail at the intended viewing size. Check transparent edges when exporting to JPEG, which uses a white background here. A destination may impose both pixel and byte limits; one is not a substitute for the other. For a DPI-only change that preserves pixels, use the homepage tool.
Frequently asked questions
Can I enlarge without losing quality?
Enlarging changes the pixel grid. It can be useful for a layout, but cannot guarantee the original detail at a larger size.
How is physical size converted?
The chosen width and height in inches are multiplied by your target PPI. Centimetres and millimetres are converted to inches first.
Why did the output crop my image?
Crop fills the target ratio. Choose padding or a matching ratio to retain the full composition.
Can I just change 72 DPI to 300 DPI here?
